Emanate

Emanate is part of my final year minor project, This was an enterprise module where we were tasked with a business proposal selling a product that we had developed.

My Brother and I have run Padgett Audio for the last 5 years catering for live sound for local venues and offering mobile studio services.

I found a gap in the market for environmentally friendly high end bookshelf speakers.

Emanate uses a 6.5 inch coaxial driver to achieve a focused and rich sound, Coaxial speakers are usually found in high end car entertainments systems and fit this brief perfectly.

The design uses a tuned port as seen towards the top of the speaker body, this aids with low end extension from a smaller driver.

Emanate uses a flax based composite for the main enclosure, Richlite is used for the facia plates this is a pressed paper composite. The use of hemp based plastics is also used for the rear connector plate and the tuned port.

Packaging was also a key focus of the design as it was found that polystyrene was used for almost all audio equipment packaging, I felt it was necessary to cut the amount of non-biodegradable packaging from the design and therefore used a pressed paper mulch similar to that found in egg cartons.

Emanate can be customised to match the décor by changing the facia plate, these are CNC machined from the afore mentioned Richlite composite and held captive with 3 anodised cap head screws.
