Speaker

In this brief I was required to design a speaker taking inspiration from the city centre of Sheffield, this speaker is heavily influenced by the steel bollards that are dotted around the city.

The model was carved from a solid block of Jelutong then sprayed to match the metallic look of the bollards.

To quickly get a feel for the form of the speaker I used blue modelling foam as it is easy to shape and carve, this helped me get a representation of how big the speaker should be.

Accurate drawings were created to covey the dimensions of the speaker and how the components would fit inside. The speaker placement was carefully calculated to achieve the best sound out of the drivers, the low/ sub driver was pointed toward the bottom as bass frequencies are omni-directional and the mid and tweeter are at an angle so as to project the sound into the room
